Tasty Tuesday – Apple Goodie

Happy Tuesday!  This week’s recipe is for Apple Goodie, one of the desserts I fixed for Thanksgiving.  Apples are plentiful this time of year, and we also have some at the house in our fruit bowl.  Perfect snack to grab on the go.

We first had this dish at our Amish friend’s home several months ago.  She served it with vanilla ice cream, and it was delicious.  She shared the recipe with me, and then I found the cookbook she copied it out of and grabbed a copy.  It is her sister-in-law’s family cookbook called The Busy Mother’s Cookbook.

Here is the recipe if you’d like to make this yourself…

Apple Goodie, page 118

1/2 c. sugar

2 Tbsp. flour

1/4 tsp. salt

1 tsp. cinnamon

1 1/2 qt. sliced apples

Mix sugar, flour, salt, and cinnamon.  Add apples and mix.  Put on the bottom of greased 9″x13″ pan.

Topping:

1 c. oatmeal

3/4 c. brown sugar

1 c. flour

1/4 tsp. soda

1/3 tsp. baking powder

2/3 c. butter

Mix ingredients until crumbly, then put on top of apples and pat firmly.  Bake at 350 degrees for 60 minutes until brown and crust is firm.  Serve with milk or cream.

This was really yummy, and everyone enjoyed it on Thanksgiving.  I served it with whipped cream.  I used cameo apples and cubed them instead of slicing them.  I cut the recipe in half since I had two other desserts for Thanksgiving.

Hope you have a great week and are getting ready for the holiday season.  I’m enjoying listening to Christmas music both at work and home.

Blessings…
