Tasty Tuesday – Chex Muddy Buddies

Welcome to this week’s Tasty Tuesday post.  This week, I am sharing another recipe that I fixed for the holidays out of a Mennonite cookbook that I haven’t shared with you all yet.  This recipe is for Chex Muddy Buddies or what I usually call Puppy Chow, and I found the recipe on page 379 of the Favorite Recipes from the Oberholtzer Family cookbook.  It is a really large cookbook, and I’ll talk more about that after I share the recipe.

Chex Muddy Buddies, page 379, Anna Mae Zimmerman

1 c. milk chocolate chips

1/2 c. peanut butter

1/4 c. butter

1 tsp. vanilla

9 c. Chex cereal (any variety)

1 1/2 c. powdered sugar

Measure cereal in a large bowl, set aside.  In a microwave bowl, mix chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter.  Microwave uncovered on high for one minute, stir.  Microwave 30 second longer or until mixture can be stirred smooth, stir in vanilla.  Pour chocolate mixture over cereal, stirring until cereal is evenly covered.  Put in a 2 gallon storage bag.  Add powdered sugar, seal bag and gently shake until coated.  Spread on wax paper to cool.  Store in an air-tight container in refrigerator.

This recipe makes a lot and is great to give away during the holidays.  It was something new for me to fix with my cookie trays this past Christmas.  Several people said how good it was and hoped it would be an annual add to their cookies.  We’ll have to see about that.

Favorite Recipes from the Oberholtzer Family cookbook is a spiral bound book (my favorite type!) and has 460 pages of pure goodness.  It has a family tree of the Oberholtzer family in the front as well as a picture of their homestead.  The divider pages each have a colored picture as well.  I’ve taken this off the back of the cookbook to give you an idea of what is included:

“A collection of family favorites, this book includes a large variety of over 850 recipes.  From basic cooking for simple meals to dainty appetizers and desserts, plus some special diet recipes for gluten-free, sugar-free, or low-carb diets, you are sure to find many delicious foods that you will enjoy”.

I picked up my copy at a Mennonite owned rubber stamp store – imagine that!  If you are in the Lancaster County area, you could grab a copy at L&L Rubber Stamps & Scrapbooking located at 1015 Frys Road in Ephrata, PA.  I am sure other places might have it, but this is where I snagged my copy.

This would be something fun to make for little Valentine treats too.  Everyone enjoys getting a little goodie on their desk as a sweet surprise every now and then.

Have a great week.

Blessings…
